📷 Photography Tip — Beating the Kansas City heat at your summer session
Kansas City summers don’t mess around. But hot weather doesn’t have to mean sweaty, miserable photos — it just takes a little strategy.
The biggest one: timing. Evening golden hour (around 7:00–8:30 PM in summer) isn’t just the prettiest light of the day — it’s also when the heat finally breaks. We get glowing photos and nobody melts.
Location matters too. Shaded parks, tree canopies, and spots near water stay noticeably cooler than open fields at midday.
Dress light and skip the heavy layers. Natural fabrics photograph beautifully and breathe better than anything synthetic.
Bring water for everyone — and for the kids, a cold treat afterward works wonders as motivation. “Smiles first, ice cream after” has saved more than one of my sessions.
And don’t worry about a little shine or flyaway hair. That’s what I’m here for — I watch for those things so you don’t have to.
What’s your family’s favorite way to cool off in a KC summer?
