Your holiday cards start in September

๐Ÿ“ท Photography Tip โ€” Your holiday cards start in September

I know โ€” it’s not even sweater weather yet. But if holiday cards are part of your family’s tradition, the math starts now.

Work backwards with me: cards should hit mailboxes in early December. Before that, you need time to design and print them. Before that, you need your final edited photos. Before that, you need the session itself โ€” with a buffer in case weather moves it.

That lands your ideal session window squarely in late September through October. Which, conveniently, is also when Kansas City looks its absolute best.

A fall session pulls double duty: gorgeous family photos for the wall, and a card photo that doesn’t look like it was taken in a panic on November 30th.

Every year I get the December 1st messages asking if there’s any way to squeeze in a card photo. I always try โ€” but the families relaxing in December are the ones who booked in September.

Does your family send holiday cards? What’s the photo usually like โ€” posed and polished, or beautiful chaos?
